NHS boards across Scotland are to benefit from a real terms increase of 2.9 per cent in their funding in 2012-13.

The news comes on the same day that Westminster Health Secretary Andrew Lansley was greeted by protesters opposed to his changes to the English NHS, as he arrived to give a speech at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.

In Scotland territorial boards will benefit from £7.761 billion, while special boards will receive £1.040 billion.

In addition, figures indicate that revenue funding for territorial health boards is likely to increase further by 3.3 per cent in 2013-14 and by 3.1 per cent in 2014-15.

Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said:

“The Scottish Government is committed to protecting spending on health, and this budget allocation reflects an increase in real terms for every territorial health board across Scotland.

“Despite a difficult economic climate, we know how important it is that we continue to invest in frontline NHS services, and that is why the core budgets of all territorial health boards are increasing in real terms.

“Sustained investment in our national health service will ensure that boards continue to have the necessary resources to bring about real benefits to both patients and staff, and that we can deliver a first class service to patients across the country.

“This funding will help us continue to provide more sustainable, high quality and improving healthcare services. It will also support the integration of prison healthcare into the NHS, enable the Scottish Ambulance Service to implement the meal break settlement, and it will help us deliver the 18 week referral to treatment waiting times standard.”

SNP Government = protection of the Scottish NHS. Tory/LibDem Westminster Government = creeping privatisation of the NHS in England.

SNP Government = retention of control of Scottish Water. Scottish Tories, as voiced by their party leader Ruth Davidson = privatisation by selling off our water resources to their rich cronies in "the city".

Two good reasons for independence, to protect us from similar asset stripping, London unionist style.

Interesting to note on the water issue that bills south of the border are rising this year, in some areas up to 8%, whilst Scottish Water have no rises.

They offered this a few years ago to the Scottish Government and they told Westminster where to go!

The deal on the table was that if they sold Scottish water for £3 billion, Westminster would graciously let the Scottish Government keep £1 Billion to fund infrastructure projects.

The fact that Scotland makes about £160 Million a year from Scottish Water was never considered by Westminster as they have such short sighted Politicians but Luckily the SNP were in charge up here and took the long view that they would make the same money over 6.25 years without having to sell the water.

If Labour ever get back into power in Scotland then we can expect this to be the first thing to be sold off!

Its just another in a long line of reasons to vote for independence.

On the issue of privatisation, can I urge people to sign this e-petition in support of privatisation:

epetitions.direct.gov.uk/.../...

Privatisation of Thatcher's funeral, that is. You know she'd hate to be a burden on the state.

Oh dear and here is a snapshot of what is happening to the NHS down South:

dailymail.co.uk/.../...

For a busy civil servant, the trip must have felt like a well-earned perk. Last June, David Bennett, the head of NHS regulator Monitor, flew business class to New York, where he stayed at a five-star hotel and attended a lavish banquet, all paid for by McKinsey and Company, the international management consultants.

McKinsey & Company paid for NHS regulator staff to go to lavish events

Many Health and Social Care Bill proposals drawn up by the company

Document shows it has used access to share information with other clients

McKinsey also worked closely with previous government and on disastrous Railtrack privatisation under John Major

A really good incentive for the Scottish people to vote independence if they want to save the NHS in Scotland.

It’s a corrupt dog’s dinner down south.
